Maine's Tides
Where Did All the Water Go?!
The Bay of Fundy boasts some of the largest tides in the world. Machias Bay is connected to the Bay of Fundy and Salt River Cottage is on the edge of the confluence of two tidal rivers feeding the Bay, so you'll see the stark difference between low and high tide from the deck. Fun fact: at high tide, salt water pushes up the rivers and turns Salt River Cottage into an oceanfront property. At low tide, the salt water disappears and only the freshwater rivers remain, transforming the Cottage into riverfront property!
